{"id":203,"date":"2008-07-25T21:31:04","date_gmt":"2008-07-25T20:31:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.yellowhousehomeschool.net\/?p=203"},"modified":"2008-07-25T21:31:04","modified_gmt":"2008-07-25T20:31:04","slug":"nature-walk-lac-achard-in-the-alps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yellowhousehomeschool.net\/?p=203","title":{"rendered":"Nature walk: Lac Achard in the Alps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, we hiked up to Lac Achard in the high mountains (nearly 2000m).\u00a0 We were not quite above tree level, but definitely in open land.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yellowhousehomeschool.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/lac-achard.jpg\" title=\"lac-achard.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yellowhousehomeschool.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/lac-achard.jpg\" alt=\"lac-achard.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0A change of scene is always nice.\u00a0 We saw many things that are new to us:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A kestrel hovering then diving on its prey and catching it.<\/li>\n<li>A snout weevil with a trunk like an elephant<\/li>\n<li>Numerous wild flowers of the high mountains, including the yellow gentian that grows as tall as Antonia, and the rare-ish martagon lily<\/li>\n<li>Tadpoles, some of which were just growing their back legs, and all of which required little rush houses, built by Antonia!<\/li>\n<li>A rare-ish orchid.\u00a0 With an ant on top of it.\u00a0 Another ant tried to climb up and they had a long battle, at the end of which the invader fell off.
