This followed a lot of oral French storytelling and informal poems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Reading<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We read several picture books in French together: Barbapapa, Le Fromage Magique, <\/li>\n<li>I read aloud a particularly good set of library books this week and also La sorci\u00e8re du placard aux balais from Contes de la rue Broca<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;re also into Claude Ponti again with our new book Le Chateau d&#8217;Anne Hiversaire<\/li>\n<li>Some independent reading<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Maths\/Logic<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Still playing with multiplication &#8211; she sure picked that up easily<\/li>\n<li>We printed out a map of the town centre and had Antonia lead the way from the car park to the ice cream shop<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/yellowhousehomeschool.net\/uploaded_images\/Bird-feeder-726126.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/yellowhousehomeschool.net\/uploaded_images\/Bird-feeder-726121.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Science\/Nature<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Examined the buds on the flower basket.  We set up a stop motion video experiment to film a bud unfurling into a flower<\/li>\n<li>Made and installed a bird feeder &#8211; project from Youpi<\/li>\n<li>Went for a long walk down to the river &#8211; really lovely, antonia very exploratory, clambering and so on, especially in the south facing parts of the mountain.  Made a collection of lichens as well as taking numerous photos. <\/li>\n<li>Picked out some other interesting nature activities from a library book<\/li>\n<li>Brainpops especially health, immune system, weather<\/li>\n<li>Forgotten from last week: examined the jewellery counter in a search for real diamonds, noted price, size and relative glitteriness.  Also looked at real rubies, sapphires and emeralds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/yellowhousehomeschool.net\/uploaded_images\/Mosses-782537.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/yellowhousehomeschool.net\/uploaded_images\/Mosses-782521.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:78%;\">4 mosses<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">History\/Social Studies<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Noted the location of road name signs in the city<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Practical Life\/Cooking<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Helped make pancakes<\/li>\n<li>Made chocolate and pastry snails over at a friend&#8217;s house<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Arts\/Crafts<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Made herself a photo tour of the house, very sweet, it contains individual portraits of each of her toys, items of interest to her&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>Made several figurines and some jewellery with the sculpey clay her American relatives sent her.<\/li>\n<li>Made Mike a Valentine&#8217;s Day card<\/li>\n<li>Made drawings to illustrate the difference between raiding (stealing) and trading (exchanging)<\/li>\n<li>Made a drawing of a witch (green with hairy legs!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/yellowhousehomeschool.net\/uploaded_images\/Sculpeys-726114.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/yellowhousehomeschool.net\/uploaded_images\/Sculpeys-726108.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Music<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>She figured out the melody from the 2nd movement of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik on the piano<\/li>\n<li>She did a lot of improvising and got a bit upset because she couldn&#8217;t really record her improvisations long term, so we&#8217;re on a search for a solution<\/li>\n<li>Watched The Magic Flute (again)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Sports\/Activities<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dance class<\/li>\n<li>Swimming class<\/li>\n<li>Ice skating <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Games<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>M and A have been playing the new pirate game he brought in the US.  I gather he is looking for ways to make it harder, even though he has lost every time so far!<\/li>\n<li>Also Solitaire and Quoridor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Out and about<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trip to the airport (again), to pick up Mike<\/li>\n<li>Two play afternoons this week and one sleepover<\/li>\n<li>One trip to the children&#8217;s playground and ice cream shop<\/li>\n<li>Shopping for Valentines Day flowers and chocolates and also for books<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Special mention<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The adults have been testing out the new microscope &#8211; a hair and moss spore capsules.
